[3] TVD Fics: (Alaric, Slater, Jules)

Title:  Resemblance
Author: simply_aly
Fandom:  The Vampire Diaries
Pairing/CharactersAlaric, Elena; hints of Alaric/Elena, Alaric/Jenna, Alaric/Isobel
Rating:  PG
Word Count:  330
Summary:  All these things make him contemplate the debate of nurture versus nature.
A/N:  For tombofchallenge's Character Bingo Challenge.

When Alaric looks at Elena, he tells himself all he sees is Elena Gilbert.

Sometimes he’s being truthful, sometimes he’s lying.

Sometimes, he’ll look at Elena and see Jenna. They have the same smile, the same way of tilting their head when they’re confused, the same way of avoiding the issue instead of facing it. Elena also has Jenna’s strength and Jenna’s bravery. Elena doesn’t flinch in fear at the thought of a sacrifice or dying, she just accepts it as being fate.

But when they’re gathered at the cemetery afterward, Alaric sees that Elena also has Jenna’s fragility, and that is why he stays at the Gilbert house.

There are nights, after too much bourbon, where he’ll crash on the couch and she’ll come downstairs to take care of him. When she is walking away from him, sometimes he sees Isobel. They have the same eyes, the same long hair, and the same sway of their hips. They have the same way of looking at you like you mean the world. They have the same sense of humor—dry and sarcastic and usually completely off point.

All these things make him contemplate the debate of nurture versus nature. How can she be so like Jenna when they aren’t related and how can she act like Isobel when they hardly knew each other?

But Elena is nurturing in a way Isobel never was, and when he’s drunk and Elena’s there sitting next to him, sometimes he doesn’t want to tell the difference. Sometimes she is Elena, sometimes she is Jenna, and sometimes she is Isobel.

She’ll hold his hand and tell her that she misses her too and he won’t know who she’s talking about. Isobel, Jenna, herself?

He worries, the mornings after, wonders if he said something he shouldn’t have, but she’s up and making coffee in the morning with a smile and he accepts them both without question.

Sometimes, he thinks it’s easier just to not know the truth.

Title:  Life Not Lived
Author:: simply_aly
Fandom:  The Vampire Diaries
Pairing/CharactersSlater, Rose, Trevor, Slater/Alice
Rating:  PG
Word Count:  320
Summary:  His hands unwillingly start to tremble as he grasps the stake.
A/N:  For tombofchallenge's Character Bingo Challenge.

When one has forever, what does one do? There is no real answer; by now, he knows this. Slater finds it ironic that he spent so much of his undeath seeking the meaning of life.

But nothing can be done of it now, he muses as he takes the stake in his hands. He wants to tremble, but he looks into Elijah’s eyes and there is nothing but blackness in his mind for a moment.

He blinks and he remembers Trevor, recalls Rose’s face when she tells him of Trevor’s death. (There is no irony in the fact that they both die because of the same Original, just fact.)

Slater is sure that Rose is next to die by the Original’s hand—once she outlives her usefulness—and some faint part of him feels guilty for helping that along. (He has no doubt that phone call was the first step to that end.)

Slater focuses on Elijah once more. His hands unwillingly start to tremble as he grasps the stake.

He doesn’t want to die now any more than he wanted to die back when he was turned. He welcomed vampirism back then because it made him special, it game him a chance to learn about anything because he could just do it over without losing any time.

He remembers being human and being worried about not having enough time to do what he wanted in life. Undeath gave him that freedom.

He takes a deep breath.

Alice. He wants to say goodbye to her, wants to tell her to think carefully before making the decision she has been begging him to make for her for the past few years. There are advantages to vampirism, Slater cannot deny that, but there are disadvantages too, and sometimes he feels she is blind to them.

His last thought before he dies is that he wished he could have done more.

Title:  Enemies
Author: simply_aly
Fandom:  The Vampire Diaries
Pairing/CharactersJules, Katherine; implied Mason/Jules
Rating:  PG
Word Count:  315
Summary:  Katherine has said it many times. The enemy of my enemy is my friend.
A/N:  For tombofchallenge's Character Bingo Challenge.

“We’re supposed to be enemies,” Jules is fond of saying.

Katherine has a tendency to laugh at the words. “We have a common goal,” she’ll reply, “and you know the saying well enough by now, I shouldn’t have to remind you.”

Jules nods then. Katherine has said it many times. The enemy of my enemy is my friend.

“Just do what I say and in a short while, we can go right back to being enemies,” Katherine will tell her.

“But Tyler will be safe?”

Jules needs constant reassurance. All she came here for is that boy and she will be damned if she gets caught up in this stupid vampire bullshit and loses all she wanted in the first place. She lost Mason, and she refuses to lose Tyler.

Katherine smiles reassuringly. “Of course he will.”

So Jules calls Brady, who brings the pack into town. They capture Tyler’s girlfriend and Jules has to leave the room. She can stand the screams—tells herself it’s okay that Brady is hurting her—but she doesn’t want to see the look on the girl’s face.

It’s a hell of a mess, but it is exactly what Katherine wants. “That rag-tag team of supernatural idiots will be so out of sorts when the time comes that they’ll mess up everything and I’ll get exactly what I want,” she explains when Jules asks about the point of that endeavor.

Jules doesn’t understand her meaning, but then, why would she. They’re supposed to be enemies, remember?

She gets Tyler in the end, just as she wanted, and she wonders just what is an enemy who keeps their word.

Weeks later, she is writhing in pain in a circle of fire and Katherine is lounging around an apartment miles away. It doesn’t even occur to Jules as she dies that it was Katherine who pointed Klaus in her direction.
