Title:  Too Late
Fandom:  The Vampire Diaries
Pairing/Characters: Elijah/Katherine
Rating:  PG
Word Count:  165
Summary:  The moment her eyes met Elijah’s, she was ever the wide-eyed innocent again.
A/N:  For a tvd_rareships Comment Fic Party prompt by sablize. Originally posted HERE.

Katerina had long ago perfected the art of seduction by the time she had met the both of them. But the moment her eyes met Elijah’s, she was ever the wide-eyed innocent again. He made her blush and half the time she could barely meet his eyes because she was sure he would be able to see the things she couldn’t say within them.

He had such a wonderful laugh, and Katerina would often just close her eyes and try to memorize the sound so she would never forget. And his smile, when she was brave enough to gaze at him, was breathtaking.

She wouldn’t tell him she loved him, wasn’t foolish enough to do so without an admission from him first.

And up until the moment she found out he knew of the sacrifice, she had desperately wanted him to say the words.

It was only later, much too late for a second chance, that she found out she just hadn’t waited long enough.

Title:  Unravel
Fandom:  The Vampire Diaries
Pairing/Characters:  Elena & Jenna
Rating:  PG
Word Count:  350
Summary:  Elena was beginning to realize that protecting Jenna was harder than she’d first thought it would be.
A/N:  For a tvd_rareships Comment Fic Party prompt by bambiscott. Originally posted HERE.

Elena thought it couldn’t get any worse when Jenna had found out about Isobel. After both she and Alaric had claimed that Elena’s mother was dead, her appearance at the door had shocked Jenna to the core, and she had refused to even look at Elena for more than a few seconds at a time.

Elena had cried into her pillow that night. Elena was beginning to realize that protecting Jenna was harder than she’d first thought it would be. She knew that it would be better if Jenna not know—or, at least, it had been better—but now things were changing, and Elena wasn’t sure.

But there had been so many lies. How could she just say the truth?

When Stefan called and told her that Jenna knew, Elena ran straight to the boarding house.

“How could you not tell me about them when there were so many in our town?” Jenna asked slowly when they had both calmed down. “I didn’t know—I could have invited anybody in to the house…we could have all been in danger. How could you keep it a secret all this time, Elena?”

Elena didn’t know what to say. Jenna, despite finding out so recently, was right. The one potentially fatal flaw in her excuse.

Elena sighed. “I thought—I guess at first I assumed that if you didn’t know, you couldn’t send me away or forbid me from seeing Stefan. Then things got dangerous and I felt it was just easier to keep it a secret. I couldn’t stop what had already happened and we were already trying to prevent anything else—it was just easier to let everyone who didn’t know stay unaware.”

“I thought I was doing a good job as a guardian, I thought you and Jeremy were starting to be normal and happy and all this time there was so much….darkness.”

Elena was crying at this point. “I’m sorry, Jenna,” she whispers. Can you forgive me? The question was silent, but they both know it’s there.

Jenna nodded, but didn’t speak. She didn’t know.

Title:  Ease
Fandom:  The Vampire Diaries
Pairing/Characters: Elijah/Jenna
Rating:  PG
Word Count:  515
Summary:  For the first time, she doesn’t wonder what’s behind the façade.
A/N:  For a tvd_rareships Comment Fic Party prompt by mslane19. Originally posted HERE.

He’s charming—that is Jenna’s first impression of him. He knows just what to say to make her feel at ease, and he does so in such a natural way that she actually does feel at ease. For the first time, she doesn’t wonder what’s behind the façade; she doesn’t think it’s too good to be true, doesn’t think he could be using her for any nefarious purpose.

When Jenna first meets Elijah, she just thinks he’s a damn good sweet talker who wants to (for reasons she’ll never understand) write about Mystic Falls.

She notices the way Alaric glares at him when she’s showing him the old Fell property. She just doesn’t understand why.

Elijah’s been a perfect gentleman with her and he’s never once shown any indication of wanting any sort of relationship with her.

A part of her enjoys the jealousy in Alaric’s eyes, so she stands marginally closer to Elijah than necessary, holds his gaze for a few seconds longer than required to be polite, and smiles serenely when he talks.

Outwardly, she plays the innocent, but Elijah’s knowing glance tells her wordlessly that he sees right through her.

Jenna wonders why Damon seems to hate Elijah so much.

Elijah, on the other hand, seems amused by the eldest Salvatore’s antics, but they start to grate on Jenna’s nerves throughout dinner.

He must have gotten fed up with Damon’s snide comments and rude gestures, though, for Alaric—after the guys had all been absent for a while and it had just been her and Andie eating desert—later tells Jenna he’s left.

She’s surprised Elijah didn’t tell her himself, though. He seemed the type to say goodbye in person.

When Jenna finds out about vampires, she’s apprehensive to trust anyone again. She obeys Stefan only because it seems safer than staying around the man who is so obviously not Alaric. But Stefan is a vampire, and she doesn’t trust him as far as she can throw him—and Jenna’s never been one for sports.

She can’t trust Alaric because he isn’t there anymore. She can’t trust Damon because she barely trusted him when she thought he was human. And for all she loves her niece and nephew, she’s been lied to too many times to believe anything from their mouths without getting a second opinion.

But then Elijah’s in the boarding house and Jenna’s smiling through her seemingly endless bout of tears.

He tells her the truth and doesn’t spare her anything. Jenna knows he’s a vampire, one of the oldest, really; and she knows he had originally planned on sacrificing Elena. She knows all of this, and yet she sits next to him in the Salvatore boarding house and asks him which century he liked best.

He still says all the right things, laughs at all the right moments. His hand rests softly on her knee, and he tells her about the 1700s.

It’s easy to like Elijah, she realizes; and when she glances over at Elena and Stefan and Damon, she thinks she’s beginning to understand.

Summary:  He seems to reach his breaking point, for his pretty eyes fill with tears.
A/N:  For a Petrova Fire Comment Ficathon prompt by ellensmithee. Originally posted HERE.

Katherine is bored—bored in Mystic Falls with her mind showing her pictures of these pretty blue eyes. She has heard her young blonde vampire’s dilemma concerning one Matt Donavan and ever since, that boy’s blue eyes have been taking over her mind. So really, it is hardly a surprise when she finds herself wandering over to his house in the middle of the night.

She realizes once she gets there that she’s never been in his house before and sighs in frustration, mentally cursing the limitations of being a vampire.

She finds herself at his window, tapping on the glass to wake him up.

He opens the door with hardly any hesitation and Katherine is smart enough to know that it’s no coincidence—similar situations probably played out in his past with her look-alike.

Katherine hates that Elena had him first.

“Elena?” Matt asks sleepily, confirming Katherine’s thoughts. “Come in. What are you doing here?”

“I wanted to see you,” Katherine says, deciding at once to play her doppelganger as she crawls through the window. She’ll get father as Elena than as herself—especially since blue-eyed-Matt seems to have a newfound hatred for vampires like herself. “Wanted to know how you were dealing with…everything.”

Matt looks surprised. “You know—about Caroline…about vampires?”

Katherine wants to laugh, wants to say, “Yes, sweetie, I am one,” but instead just nods. “I know everything and…it isn’t…it isn’t easy.”

He seems to reach his breaking point with those words of truth for his pretty eyes that Katherine cannot get over fill with tears. “The Salvatores—they killed Vickie.”

Katherine nods. “I know,” she whispers, “and I hate them for that.”

And it’s not a lie. Katherine never knew Vickie, but that they turned her and killed her has caused a hell of a lot of unwanted trouble for her that could have been avoided if her boys had just showed a little more control.

Her hand reaches his face and caresses it softly, relishing the warmth in his cheeks. He grabs her hand. “Why are you still…with them, then? They killed my sister—they should pay for that.”

Katherine nods. “Yes, they should—and I’ll make sure they do.”

She carefully avoids the question he’d asked, for how does she explain her and the Salvatore brothers…and Elena, of course?

Matt just seems to cry more at this assurance and Katherine wipes the tears away as she stares into those pretty blue eyes.

Summary:  She’s not alone for long when Katherine makes her entrance.
A/N:  For a tvd_rareships Comment Fic Party prompt by shafeferi. Originally posted HERE.

Liz Forbes dies in the fight to kill Klaus. She was firmly on Caroline’s side in the end and no one else’s. She didn’t give a damn if any of the other vampires survived the fight, but what it had come down to was that Caroline was her daughter and she wasn’t going to let her die (again) at the hands of some really old vampire.

She protected Caroline as much as she possibly could, but human limitations were her downfall in the end, and Damon would have been the first to have admitted to predicting that outcome.

All the remaining members of their little gang of supernatural misfits show up at the funeral, if only to support Caroline. And everyone’s surprised when Katherine shows up as well—hiding in the shadows as to not be seen by the human attendees.

And afterward, when Caroline’s back at the boarding house (where everyone is staying because no one wants to be truly alone after all they’ve gone through), Caroline breaks down in the living room, and Elena, Bonnie, Tyler, and even Damon try comforting her. When nothing works, they make for the kitchen and attempt to leave her alone.

She’s not alone for long when Katherine makes her entrance—loud and showy—and sits herself on the floor next to where Caroline had fallen.

“He killed my mother too,” she whispers.

Caroline stops crying at the words and sniffles as she lifts her head to stare at the vampire double of her best friend.

Katherine’s hand is hesitant and surprisingly gentle as she reaches out and fixes the blonde’s hair and wipes at her tears. Caroline closes her eyes and, for some reason, is reminded of the way her mother used to do almost the same thing when Caroline would come home from school upset over something.

“He killed everyone I loved—everyone I knew,” Katherine continues. “But you still have people who you love. You still have Elena and Bonnie and Tyler. and, hell…sometimes I think there may be a part of Damon that cares about you. Even I don’t mind having you around, I suppose. You’re feisty—I like that.”

Hearing that it could have been much worse (that she could have been the last one standing) makes her realize that maybe she’ll be alright.

And as Katherine gets up and leaves her on the floor again, Caroline watches her heels click across the floor with the hint of a smile on her face.

She loves the way his hand rests on the small of her back, a small sign of support on his part. She loves the way he allows her to hold his hand in public—a sign of unity and equality. She loves the way his fingers gently twirl her blonde curls to show affection.

She shivers when his hands hold hers against the headboard, bites her lips when she hears him rip her dress from her body, moans when his free hand both gently and roughly caresses her body.

She loves the feel of his hands on her—craves it, really—but it always stings too. He has this way of leaving invisible marks on her skin so that, long after he’s left her bed, she can feel him lingering on her skin, burning and freezing in equal measure.

And then he’s gentle again, wiping tears from her cheeks, placing kisses down her neck, holding her gently in his arms and she trembles because she knows what will soon follow.
